Selection of Raw Materials
Everything starts with the raw materials of the ziplock bag. The milky white granular substance shown is the primary material for manufacturing ziplock bags—scientifically known as polyethylene (PE). This virgin PE material is safe for direct food contact.
Blown Film Process
The raw material is poured into the machine hopper and processed through a film-blowing machine. This process forms plastic film, which is then wound into rolls, ready for the bag-making production line.
Bag-Making Process

Understanding Thickness Measurement
Among various plastic films, thickness is commonly measured using “silk” (丝), a colloquial unit. One millimeter (mm) equals 100 silk. The higher the silk number, the thicker the bag.
Choosing the Right Thickness
When selecting ziplock bags, thicker does not always mean better—it depends on the stored items.
- For soft, non-angular items, extra thickness is unnecessary.
- For sharp, easily punctured, or chemical-related items, a minimum thickness of 10 silk is recommended. This is suitable for packaging bone-in foods, screws, nails, and other industrial products.
