What is a Printed Label?

A printed label, also known as a care label or wash label, is a printing process commonly used in the textile industry. It is simpler than offset printing and is typically used for products such as:

What is a Printed Label

- Clothing

- Shoes

- Hats

- Underwear

- Quilts

- Other daily items or textiles

The purpose of a printed label is to inform customers about the material composition and washing standards of the product.

Printed labels are different from woven labels. A printed trademark includes:

- Wash labels (also called care labels or wash tags)

- Size labels (or size tags)

- Product tags that indicate certification

Many garment factories today produce their main labels using printing methods. Common materials include:

- Satin ribbon

- Cotton tape

- Woven tape

- Satin fabric

- Cotton fabric

These main labels are also referred to as printed labels.

Materials of Printed Labels

Printed labels typically come in two main materials:

1. Satin Ribbon – Relatively more expensive.

2. Coated Material – More affordable.

Care labels are usually made from satin ribbon or nonwoven fabric. The key differences are:

- Satin Ribbon: Best folded to prevent fraying after cutting.

- Nonwoven Fabric: Doesn’t require folding, and the edges look more natural after cutting.

Features of Printed Labels

1. Vibrant & Fashionable: They are rich in color, clear, and make the product look more stylish.

2. High Production Efficiency: Woven labels are more time-consuming to produce, while printed labels offer a higher production rate. Although woven labels are durable, resistant to washing, and less likely to fade, printed labels are ideal for fashion-forward, high-efficiency production.

Printing Principle

The process involves:

- Exposing a resin plate using a film, which etches the design through a laser.

- This creates a raised and recessed effect on the plate.

- The resin plate rotates in the machine, and through its own cylinder, it transfers ink onto the label, printing the desired content.
